Hi Peeps
Just joined the VW party with a very tired, very knackered mk1 clipper. Needs a new hood and goodness knows what else but at least I've signed up here for help and advice.
Picking the car up in the next couple of days so will join as a paid up member once the car is mine.
Looking forward to many years of fun.

Is this your first Mk1? And what plans you got for it?

welcome along to the site
have you thought about becoming a member as we have a discount scheme in place with northern hoods, may well be worth it….

The car is black. It needs a new front bumper also. It is my first Mk1 golf. Had a Mk2 many years ago and loved it. Always fancied on of these. And now I own one…
Not really got any plans to be honest other than putting on a new hood and sorting the paint work. need to see what it is like to drive before spending too much on it. It does have 130,000 on the clock but I'm hoping it is good for thousands more.
I reckon I will slowly get it back to original condition and look at doing some subtle performance increases like air intake, exhaust or whatever you guys reckon is the way forward.
I know very little about cars but figured this one would be a good one to start learning on.
Am really looking forward to ownership and hopefully attending some local and national meets.
I looked on Northern Hoods and the hoods seemed to be about ?200 more than other places. I'll check it out again though and do definately intend to join, just need to wait until the car is mine and parked on then drive. still got a deal to make to finalise it yet.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

You've certainly picked the best car to learn on as most of it is simple, the engine bay allows a lot of room to get arouns the engine and this website is full of helpfull people!!!
130k isn't too much for an old car and the vw's are pretty resiliant. I've seen some mk1's with original engines at 200k!! Try getting that out of some modern cars LOL!!!
