Hi ya just joined thought i would say hello:

I have recently purchased a mk1 gti 83y reg in not very good condition paint wise, but the engine is looking good and she moves well and starts first time, she has some good history and mot etc, interior is not bad small rip in rear seat but can be repaired until hopefully i can get them recovered, and the sunroof is leaking so that will need to be replaced.

I have booked her in for a full respray and some welding as me being female i dont have the knowledge time or fingernails to tackle this part  ops:

As you can see new tailgate required but luckily for me my husband is in the process of renovating a 1.5gls 75t reg and he has a donor mk1 which he is using for parts and he has said there are quiet a few i can use what he doesnt need including the tailgate.

I am hoping to keep it as standard as possible although it has been lowered according to receipts and how it drives and has some upgraded alloys which need refurbing.

My husband has been renovating his for about a year now and credit where its due he has put in 90% of the work himself from stripping welding etc

FYI, if sunroof leaking, may just be drain holes blocked - have a good poke around before replacing anything as the seal itself doesn't seal 100% from new anyway!

looks nice. it may have had a respray already judging my a few missing pieces and colour of the paint.

Is your other half on the forum? Would love to see some more pictures of his car. Is that Gambia Red?

Hairy the sunroof has been sticker flexed shut so we have to get the whole thing replaced unfortunately but thanks for the advice  

Mars yes it has had quiet a bit of paint but not really good paint so just going to have it all re done so at least its all one colour instead of 3   and his car is Indiana red and he has just joined the forum his name is leeg60 he has posted some pics in new folks section if you want to take a look.
