Hi all.
I've recently bought a 1988 golf cabriolet project. It's been off the road around 15 years, looks ok from a distance but won't run properly & needs lots of work to most things.
I've just joined the forum, so will be asking lots of silly questions, also just become a paid up member.
Will I receive a membership card etc through the post to allow me to take advantage of the supplier discounts etc?
Thanks.

Ask away any question, that's what we are here for and always happy to help or point you in the right direction.

Be careful running a fuel injection car which has been standing for that amount of time and definitely replace the fuel filter ASAP, the k-jet fuel system does not like rubbish fuel going through it and replacement parts are getting expensive.

Fuel filter if needed, don't forget to use the discount code if using Euro car parts..

Thankyou, I'll have loads of questions to ask as I go on.
I bought it recently from my son who had it for a couple of years but has run out of time & money after buying his first house.
It had been stood in a fairly dry lock up for around 15 years when he got it so thankfully doesn't seem to be rotten anywhere apart from one rear wheel arch, it does have lots of light rusty bits, some fairly dodgy electrics etc (including old alarm & immobiliser that need removing).
Unfortunately he did put some fresh fuel in & tried to get it running, it did run but very roughly so I guess it's probably pulled a load of muck through the system.
My plan was to change the filler neck, clean the tank, check the pumps, change filter & clean injectors etc & start from scratch again.
Although as I know it has the ability to run my plan was to sort out the interior, then bodywork, electrics etc before finally trying to get it running properly.

Sounds like a good plan and the right approach.
You know the engine runs so can sort out the other things 1st.

Good luck from a fellow 1988 GTi cabriolet owner
