Hi, looking for my first mk1 but confused.

I have been looking for a few weeks now for my first car and have come across one or two but my dad seems to always find something wrong with it. I want to know if he's being picky and over ambitious with it or not. for example this one:

Photo and Video Storage | Photobucket

Says it has done 33000miles with full service history but dad says that the seat bolster, the wear on the carpet and the stereo means it is not good enough, is he correct?

Thanks

hi, bolsters are a common thing to go on these cars, and unless you wanna spend mega £ or get very lucky you wont get one in perfect condition.

have you had a look at our buyers guide??

also a member is selling this 1.1 in the forsale section looks really tidy

all the best in your search

I agree with arf, unless your spending lot's of money you won't get a mint one these days and even then it's not new.  If your looking for a bargin I would check local car papers, you do on the odd occasion find a good deal but still with most of them they will need some attention, other option is ebay but would suggest seeing before bidding.
If you let us know your budget we could give you an idea of what to expect for the money and i assume as your 1st car your just looking at small engine with not too many mods.

My budget is about £2000 and yeah i want an original car in good condition preferably a 1.3 Driver but i don't really know what i should be expecting for my money. I have also found this one for £2500 but i think that it seems a lot of money for what it is (blue one), with no history and the odd blemish:

Another problem is living right down near lands end so if i'm going to see a car i have to be pretty certain it's the right one for me.

Thanks for the help it is well appreciated.

Places to look out: eBay, trade-it, gumtree, pistonheads, for sale section here, volkszone.com etc etc
Or keep an eye out if you see one sat on a drive knock on the door and ask if it's for sale!! We done that and got one for £100 :D

And that driver you posted a link to seems very over priced, the blue one I posted in my last comment is selling for £1900

You thought about a 5 door model , you will probs end up with 1.5 engine but I saw a decent one sell for £750 not long ago

Hi again,
How much do you guys reckon that light blue driver i posted earlier is actually worth? The guy says that he is more flexible now so, it might be worth a shot. No history but i think it looks a nice one.
