Get the nine spokes on it ASAP.
Give it a good t-cut/polish and get some treatment on the plastics.
Remove the tow bar!!! 8O
Get grille trims too - make a difference to the front end appearance…

What are your plans? resto to original spec?

Welcome to the site by the way!!

Total resto all the way
The nine spokes are getting new tyres and going on this weekend?
Towbar going soon
a rust proof/respray will happen soon (there are about 3 different shades of red)
What are grill trims?
engune needs a bit of work as it judders under acceleration
what would you recomend fot the plastics?

In the photo below, where I have Chrome Trims around the grill, the Gti has Red trims (possibly not the early models???). Looks much better with them in place…

Do you mean size or manufacturer?

I'm not sure what was standard on the 13's.
Personally, I like the look of a lower than standard profile on the wheel.
My wheels should have 185/60/14's on but I went for 185/50/14. It messes the gearing up slightly, plus that car needs to sit lower to pull it off. This may be off putting if you want to do a standard look resto.

nah i meant manufacturer eg pirelli p6000, bridgestone or whatever
im gonna keep the standard tyre size otherwise like you said theres gonna be a big gap between the wheen and the arch and will not look right

Welcome moreno, I've had standard size (175/70/13) continental tyres on the 9 spokes for a while, seem to put up with a bit of punishment and give good grip in wet and dry. Check out this thread for further opinions.

''what would you recomend fot the plastics?''

I use 'Back to Black' liquid for the bumpers, arch guards & front spoiler. Just wipes on and buffs off to leave a nice lustre and obviously makes 'em nice and black!
Nice find by the way!  8)

I've heard your standard cooking oil…yes, cooking oil does the trick as good as back-to-black and lasts for months too!

I'm going to buy some of the hard plastic colour stuff that Crazyquiff uses:

Bumper Coat from Kolorbond - http://www.kolorbond.ltd.uk/contact.htm

Mmmmm nice and shiny black!

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D
