Hi! From Spain
My name is julio i have 21 years and i´m student of mechanical engeneering, and i´m from Canary island, in August i bought my new old 1981 Golf MK1 XD its a 5 door GLd, it was from 1998 in the street…broken glases, dust, animals, etc.. It needs some care now, but the engine it´s perfect and the interiors too.
The day that i bought i say.. well i have to call a tow to pick up to the mechanic and repair the engine…but i decided to try luck XD, i buy 4 liters of diesel and i took a batery from my girlfriend´s Golf mk1 Cabrio and suddenly… it turns onĦĦĦĦĦ jejej in that moment i can´t believe.
on the last weeks i put new filters, new oil , brakes, new water pump and new timing belt.
The project.. well in first place i want to restore the paint and last week i bought TaTechnik coil overs to see the car down XD.
in the future who knows… maby an 2.0 Tdi inside XD
i don´t know if the english versions of the car has the seat belts from the floor to the door. And the funiest thing is that the car don´t start the engine if the pilot and copilot has the seat belt onĦĦ
in spain its a very bizarre thing..
that some pictures of the D-Day XD
Well thats all for this moment, i hope to learn a lot in this forum and meet people.
Thanks''

Apart from the car needing a wash it does look very nice for its age.
Good to see you are trying to fix it yourself
Welcome to the mk1 golf family

when i take some pictures of the car clean and down i´ll upate XD,ĦĦĦ
for the moment until i reach the money for painting it will be a Rat style car jejej

Well, I get the car Swapping my ex Lancia delta Hf turbo for the golf and of course money to my.
The market of mk1 in canary island is above 500£-1000£ for the gl,gld l..etc models and for the gti's depend of the general shape.
For example a Gti from 1982 with the oem 1.6 injection engine with a bit of rust and need a painting it's above 2400£
But if you are looking a very good unit you will pay near of 4000£
And here there's a few of Pre 1980's I will upload a photo with some friends with mk1 Pre 80's
