Hi from South Africa

Hi Guys and Gals,

Im Sandesh from South Africa, just wanna say "love the site" and especially the forum (more cabrio spares here then in all the lands of all the worlds…lol).
Here in South Africa the Mk1 cabrio is a rare/classic car and im privledged to own a 1981 Mk1 Cabrio GLi made 2L16v and also a 1979 Mk1 1100L 2dr. Daily drive is a polo 9n TDI…Just love VW.
I have to say being south african - we also lucky as we stay in the only country where the golf 1 is still in production…which makes it easy to get parts cos they still make them.

Thanks guys for all the compliments, yeah I do believe old school is
the way to go. Actually there are quiet a few meets but my friends(all VW golf players…lol) and
I normally get together and go out for a breakfast run once a month on
a Sunday morning…20 or so DUBS - mk1s G5s ect… we also have them quiet
modded engine wise. My cabrio has a heavily modded 16v asperated which is running high
compression(pop-up pistons) with full head work(solid lifter head with huge cams)
Custom branch and zorst, Dictator(stand alone) management system etc etc. It makes
167hp at the wheels…which is decent for a 16v with std intake manifold.
The pics posted were taken about 5 months ago since then the cabby has gone in for fresh paint
and im almost finished building my new 16v Turbo setup…estimating-hoping 300kw ATW running a Garrett GT40 88 …will keep you guys updated with pics
as i go along…hoping to complete the build by October.
If you guys need parts…say the word and I will see what i can hook up.

And heres a link to my friend Ujens car (blue mk1) at a track day 1/4 mile.
His best run was 12.9 sec on street tyres - no LSD etc but also GT40 88 turbo setup…traction is the hardest thing to get on a FWD.
exit speed on 1/4 mile 208km/h.
