Hi.....and help!!

Hi everyone!!!

I am soon to be the owner of my very first mk1 golf…iv had others but always wanted a mk1. The car that im interested in getting is a gti cabriolet, needs tlc, but im prepared to do that. However, when i went to view it, the power hood wouldnt work. Worse possible case senario (or so im told) would be the motor not working. Does anyone know any different to this, or does anyone know how much a new motor would be?? I apologise if any of this sounds like i dont know what im talking about….but thats because i dont really….but im a quick learner  :D  Any help would be much appreciated! xx

Hi and welcome to the site!

When you viewed the cabbie and you found the roof didn't work could you hear the motor working?  If so, it could to do with the hydraulic fluid (in the boot behind the card on the left), or something holding it back or restricting it.  If you can't hear the motor, it could be a faulty switch, faulty wiring or a faulty motor.  If its the latter, you could pick up a new one through a VW dealer (don't know the cost), or second hand through  e-bay, local breakers or post a thread in the wanted section.  Crazyquiff breaks a few cabbies so he could help (www.golfmk1.co.uk)

this might give you an idea.

Where abouts are you from?

Hi,

Thanks so much. That was very helpful. Yea, I could hear the motor working, it just wasnt moving the hood. I think im gonna go ahead and buy it cos from the sound of it, I'll be able to get it fixed (hopefully)….Iv just fell in love with it for some reason!! Im based in Leeds and/or nr Derby. Why do u ask?

Just asking! :D
There are plenty of helpful people on this site so if there was someone near you they might be able to look at the cabbie for you to give you an idea if it would be an expensive job or not.

I've got a Clifford on mine too but its a few years old.  If you stick a thread in the electric section you should get a few recommendations.  Or, do a search with 'alarm' or 'immobiliser' and you'll get a few older posts.

Heres my cabbie with and my TDi in the background…
