hi all

hi all

at the moment i own a 2006 stilo m-jet sporting and had no end of problems with her.

i will be getting rid of her next year and i am looking at getting a mk1 convertable of some sort.

i have always wanted one since i was about 19 and now at 24 i think i should, but i am having troulbes getting the wife on board.

i need to make sure that this car will be realiable due to using it daily. i know i need to get a well maintained one and keep the maintaince up but are they hard to look after and costly or not

cheers all

Hi mate welcome to the site good to see another Bristol lad join up :)

Firstly keep an eye out in regional section for local meets between me and richyhill were trying to get something sorted.

I got a 91 cabby that I drive everyday and it's fine. Just remember the price doesn't reflect reliability !! I paid 900 odd for mine and I've driven it almost every day 1000 miles a month and it's not missed a beat. You'll find every other weekend you'll find something to tinker with but if youre alright with a set of tools you should be fine :)
Just keep an eye out for one with hood service history, start having a look round now, it took me 2 years to find mine!!!

does it matter about the milage if theres part/full history. im used to uder the 100,000 miles and most mk1 have more than this.

You gotta remember the age of these cars. I came from 6/7 year old car with 60k on it to my golf. While I was looking I test drove a 1.6 cabby with 150k on the clock. The fella drove it everyday through the welsh hills to work and it pulled fantastic and handled as well as a cabby can :D

Like I said start having a look test drive a few so you can get a feel for how different years / mileage feel

Also you after a clipper 1.8 carb or a gti ?? Or a pre facelift model ?
