Nice one Tucker (and welcoem aboard!) I used to have a 1.5GL like that one - black too! Was a cracking car and although not a Gti was still quite nippy and a hoot to drive still! :y:

Welcome to the forum  :D

Looks like a nice example. Difficult to value any old car with pics, but I would say around the ?400 - ?800 mark. I would recommend you ask the seller to put a full MOT on it before you agree on a price as it runs out next month.

had it on the ramp and its not had any welding, only bit of rust the size of 10p on one of the rear arches at the bottom. filler neck as good as new :P
cant wait

One or two probs with it, hard clutch. chap said that it has always been like that, high too. :dontknow:

Buzin inside the car. he says that the buzz that comes on is the oil pressure switch. For some reason there are about 6 oil pessure switches for MK1 golfs, so my machanic thinks that I've got the wrong one in hence the buzzing. :dontknow: I just
hit the dash board and it stops it not the best solution!!!  :banghead:

good to haggle with

My mk2 is an early 84 gti kjet. sold the engine and box tho, been lowered. Could I used the brakes or anything?

Oh… another prob: Only other niggle is that the mileomitor has got stuck in the last 2 months at 93,800 ish thats why i've estimated the miles to be 95,000.  It may have just become disconnected or needs a new cable.

How much should I be asking off the asking price?

Check the routing of the clutch cable and check its not pulling the bulkhead as this is a weak spot. Check adjustment of the clutch  - you should have 1-2 cm of free play at the pedal before it starts to engage. Adjustment is made with the knurled wheel at the gearbox end. A new cable may solve any residual stiffness.

If bashing on the dash stops the buzzer it sounds like a faulty circuit board on the clocks. Although it is unlikely to be the oil pump, knock the money off for a new one as worst case and check you have decent pressure.

You can fit the brakes from the Mk2, but the only thing worth uprating is the vented discs. As they are cheap anyway from GSF, why fit used ones? If you upgrade, make sure you get the thinner GTi pads too.

I would ask for ?100 off, but I would not buy it without the MOT first.

Be sure that the bolts that came with the steel wheels are long enough to safely hold on the alloys, as alloys are thicker, and the bolts need to be a bit longer.

How to tell:

The short, steel-only bolts have a smooth top on the hex-head, with only the part no.

The longer, for-alloys bolts have raised castellations (like battlements on a castle) around the edge of the hex-head.

If you need the longer ones, any breaker will have them on a Mk2 Golf or Polo.

PS: If you ever put a steel rim back on the rear drums (spare wheel?), don't use the long bolts, as they can foul (and destroy) the brake-shoe assembly!
