Hi All, New member needing all the help you can offer

Hi everyone, Quick introduction. My name is Jamie and I live in Dubai.
I have just got hold of a 92 Mk1 Golf Cabby that has been imported from Japan.
I was an Old Skool Air cooled bloke in my youth but have always fancied one of these since I was 18 (37 now) and eventually got one.
Anyway this car is solid but has a tired engine and Auto box (LHD)
When sitting on the seven lane highway next to all the Ferraris, it gets a little frustrating only getting 70 out of the Cabby.
Luckily I can also get hold of a cheap donor 97 VR6 (LHD auto) that I want to steel everything off and beef up the cabby.
Can anyone help with any advise and assitance on where to start.
I have a couple of good mechanics helping me out but as said any of you guys that have gone through the pain if making this conversion and have some tips etc, that would be great.

I can not give you advice on the engine change but i am sure there will be a lot of willing volunteers…

Will probably need some advise on Air conditioning upgrades also. gets pretty warm here in the summer!!!
