Hi all im from cov just come from the air cool'd scene

I have a 1.1 golf mark 1.

Im lookin to put a 1.8 gti as the 1.1 is very lumpy and its not to happy with early mornin's also would not mind the extra power.

i am going to be a father in the next week at the prime age of 23

so will be lookin at the lowcost option and i do hate th 4 speed box even tho i had 1 in my bug

(Any one have any pointers)

The picks on my face book the (mars red 1 is my'n)  i had the green mark3 2l gti 8v 1st  but swap'd for the mark1

personally to change a 1.1 to a gti is a lot of work when you can just go and buy one off the shelf

engine mount swap, 5 speed linkage, new gearbox, wiring loom, gti brakes plus after all that and more you will still be stuck with a 1.1 interior

not much help i know, more advise

Thanks for the replys /input. I got the car as i wanted some think i could make my own. with out the insurance of a gti.

I have been lookin at the polo gt motor then going with the webber carb maybe.the  only engine swaps i have done is on old bugs wich is very easy

i just wantd some pointers

Or I was thinking of getting extra engine mounts fitted so when i have get a gti motor an box i could just get a few mates round an fit the motor the only thing i dont have confidence to do is the ecu

Welcome to the site mate.  As others have stated it's a lot of work even down to fuel pump, lines and tank I think  :dontknow:

Im coundon, nea the hollyhead pub . right i know i said i was looking at a 1.4 or 1.3 but i have spent 3 FULL days =10am till 11pm fitting a 1.8 out of a gl cab its all in but im using the old loom with the lil amp looking thing the motor was running fine when i took it out but now it runs fine when its cold starts first time but when it warms up its ticking over realy high is their any one local that could take a look.
