Hey...

Hi all,

Just purchased myself a Black Sport-line cab, I was interested in this guise because of the seats and factory fitted body kit..!

Bought on flea bay…

Getting an alarm fitted this week… Don't want it going missing..!

Will put it onto 'The Registers' as soon as I can fathom how it works..!

I have had Mk1s before, a 3 door driver 1300cc when I was 19, and a 1981 gti hardtop, sold 2 years ago…

Couple of teething problems if anyone can help (I will look on forum, just as I was on here)  :)

- I have a leaky expansion tank, as i have seen rusty water coming from the thread of the cap, and from the water level sensor area… Does this just need a new cap, and 'O' ring for level sensor..?? or is the bottle worn..??

- The speedo seems to read about 8mph faster than my sat nav shows..?? at 90mph on the dash your doing 82mph on the sat nav (obviously this was done on my recent trip to the German autobahns)..! Any quick fix..? or is it gearbox..? cable looks original…

- The indicator LED on the dash has started coming on when the ignition is switched on..? loose earth/bad indicator relay..?

- When the key goes in the ignition the red oil & battery LED sometimes flicker on the dash…

-When getting out last night i needed some light and flashed the headlamps (with engine stopped and everything turned off) and the blower fan came on (the blower switch was turned on, as it was a cold night)..? Normal or wiring problem..?

-It has crystal rear lights and a de badged single lamp grill… Does anyone have any that would have been original 'Sport-line' kit…

Regards & happy motoring
Ed

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Hard to tell without seeing the bottle but the cap and O ring would be pennies to replace if they look worn for a start.

Speedo's tend to over read, 10% out at that speed isnt too bad really, i've yet to drive any model of car where the speedo matches the GPS exactly.

Sounds like you prob have an earth problem there somewhere, there's an earth on the rockercover for the dash clocks this is a common culprit, i'd start there.

Hi and welcome to the club…

I have been putting together a register for the 'sportline' model on a website i am currently building. I'd like to see how many of the 449 cars are still around…

have a look… the website is… www.golfgtisportline.com

I wonder would you be interested in getting involved and putting up a few pics?

Cheers Hugh.
