hey, first timer here...have a few q's
i have test driven two mk1's. Both are the golfs, no gti's. one has a cracked cv joint boot. Is this a problem? what does it take to replace a cv joint? what does it cost? Also the handbrake doesnt work and it takes quite a bit of pushing on the brake pedal to stop the car. What could cause this?

Hey swiffer, welcome aboard.
You're looking at about ?40 for a cv joint and a boot kit (if it's only the boot they're about a fiver) and can't see it taking anymore than an hour to do, or an hours labour at a garage. Handbrake will probably be a cable (broken or seized) or just something become detatched somewhere. Can't be much, a very simple system.
As for the brakes, welcome to the world of mk1's!! They're all like it. Various upgrades are possible to improve them.

most common upgrade is a MK2 big servo - dont it make a big difference. And you dont need to carry a spare pair of undies in the car either!
