Hey Everybody!

Hi there, i am not a mk1 owner as such, but i might be buying one very soon (if not, then in the near future)
i am 22, and my mom said since i was 3-4 i have been infactuated with mk1 GTI's!
and now i might be able to afford one :)

gonna get some insurance quotes, and was considering classic car insurance, is this a good idea? thing is the 2 i have looked at have both had KR conversions (and brakes off same) will this really affect insurance loads? i know it's a question like "how long is a string" as there are many variables, but just a general idea would be good :)
also any insurers in particular?

a little about me, i am a petrol head through and through,
i am not a "boyracer" but a car fanatic, i have worked on cars since i was 9 (with my uncle who's a mechanic) and now am a final year Automotive Engineer at Coventry Uni, and love it :)

i love mk1 golfs, just something about them, if i do get one, i would lower it slightly (only for a good stance) and just really love and admire it, not into modding, i think it is beautiful in it's standard form, maybe wheels changed at a later date (love TH's, compomotive or schmidt's something like that) but otherwise keeping it original/restoring it if not in good nick

thanks and hopefully i can be picking your brains if i get one (wish me luck lol)

welcome to the site mate :)

classic car insurance is the way to go, when i was 23 i got insurance on a gti for about £400, as the kr conversion things i'm not sure but i'm sure the insurance would go up

Welcome aboard!, if the insurance is a nightmare, go for a GX or driver, something
like that, cheaper to insure. You can always get a GTi in a couple of years when
you have a couple of years no claims bonus etc.. .either way best of luck and
keep us posted

thanks for quick/friendly replies

just had a few quotes, they are trying to bum-rape me!
my car atm is insurance group 14 (mk2 seat ibiza 2.0 16v gti) and i am paying £790, and i got quoted £1700 from adrian flux!!!!
i didn't know footman james isn't open weekends  :dontknow:

so might be monday until i get a quote from them, my mate with a classic mini said they do good quotes

it's annoying that they base it on averages to make area's/age groups, making them pay a premium, where i ain't had speeding offence, crash or nothing, but i have to pay out my ass :( lol

it's a shame, if still high, i might not be getting it until i finish this year, graduate and get a good job :(
kinda gutted, literally i was over the moon for the past few days since i found out i might be able to get one!
