Help needed??

Hi Guys,

Am looking for some help/advice from this fountain of knowledge for the following for my mk1 1990 gti karmen cabby:

1. Water temp guage constantly flashing although needle working fine, really aggrevating me!!

2. Locking wheel nuts required

3. New nearside spot light required

4. Have sourced a local company (Warrington) to replace my original hood with a mohair one. They are quoting ?410 inc. mobile fitting service at my home 2/3 hrs to replace. They are called Carhoods Northern Ltd and have been trading for 12 years. Any comments feedback guys??

Look forward to any help you can give, Geoff

Hey Geoff welcome :D

1. Probably the sensor/wiring that screw into the top of the expansion tank.  Check wiring and replace sensor if neccesary.  GSF or vw will supply.

2.Locking wheel nuts available from most motor factors.

3.I recently bought a new spot from GPC VW/AUDI.  Cost about ?30 but many available from salvage yards.

4.Price sounds ok but have never dealt with that particular company.  You could ask to see some examples of their work.

Yup a popular one! I got a new one from VAG in the end only about ?8.00 so worth it. Don't get one from anywhere unless it's an OEM part I did to start with and it was crap!

Will try the advice from divweir first, if that fails will get a new sensor. Thanks Tian. Will let you guys know what works at weekend.

Would I be right in assuming that if the sensor isn't working the fan will fail to kick in causing the engine to overheat resulting in engine block damage???

Good luck with it.

fan is controlled by a different sensor on the rad which has nothing to do with the little led. Try clean it up first with some wire wool. it may do the trick. New ones aren't expensive though - always go VAG :)
