Hello.....pt.2

Hi, re-introduction…….I'm based in Sunny Leeds W Yorks and I've just sourced a very nice standard 1600 GTi

In the past I've owned…in order;
'86 Mk2 Scirocco GTX - got the VW bug right there!!!
'86 Golf GTi 8v small bumper…loved it
'82 Golf GTi - showroom standard, awesome and wish I'd kept it
'82 Golf GTi rag top, I personally replaced the loom due to some idiot adding a single wiper conversion, what a mess….great car but had the beginings of tin worm
'82 Golf GTi campaign, would av/could av been nice but very neglected!

and lots and lots of nasty euro boxes in between

I'm currently looking for some nice wheels. I'm an old school kinda guy so BBS RA's or something similar would do :)

Cheers fellas.

I do like the euro style, but the car has had an extensive restoration a few years ago to bring her upto scratch, including recovering both front seats (they feel like new), so I'll be keeping the old girl as standard as possible……apart from the wheels.

oh, and I've got some Wolfsburg number plate surrounds and german plates on order ;)

Brilliant car! That's the sort of GTi I'd get, a 1.6 without fog lamps. Enjoy!

Whereabouts in Leeds are you?

I'll keep an eye out and give you a wave if I see you. Just watch out for a big white, pink and purple Volvo with an idiot waving.

:)  Interesting to hear talk of 82 and 81 golfs both petrol and diesel. I wonder what is the oldest golf on the forum at present. I believe they began in 77 or was it 78 ? Diesels were very popular in Ireland , many were sold but very rare to see a mk1 diesel on the road now.

I don't think many diesels were sold in England, probably because diesel was considered only for commercial vehicles in 70's and early 80's and not that popular! And looking back the price new was pretty high for the diesel model even with very basic trim 8O. Even in early 90's when my dad first brought home a used mk1 diesel there was hardly anywhere in town where you could buy the stuff! Now it's all the rage. I blend right in  There's a handful of us with late model diesels here, most original engines. 5 speeds rule! What you driving Shawnee? Sorry for hogging the thread Spaceace.

P.S - the oldest Golf on the forum is very old! Like 1975 I think!

P.P.S - Spaceace, I'll keep an eye out for you too, I'll be at Leeds VW Festival might see ya? Only 45 mins away.

:D  Hi Diesel Dubber, I'm  the recent purchaser of a Golf Cabrio 1991, just getting used to it. However I did own a new Golf Diesel in 1980. Great car , remember checking the mileage on a long trip 66mpg, they were the first small diesel car in Ireland in the late 70s and the new tdi is still quite popular. I still drive a diesel mind you its a Focus tdci, super engine. No need to wait for the heater plugs like the old golfs and this one has the power of most 1800cc petrol.
Still once a Diesel Dan always one.
