Hello people
I've always been a Pug man and have a modded 306 as my main car, and really only bought the Golf to stave off boredom during the winter.
The plan is to do it up then either flog it in March/April or enjoy it through the summer. I've set myself a bit of a target to do what I want to the car for ?250-300 so I know i've got my work cut out.
Here's the only pic I have at the moment:
I'm pretty clueless about Golfs and Mk1s but i've always fancied one.
Its needs a little bit of work, there's a small bit of rust under the front grille and a few bits where the laquer has peeled but apart from that its sound. The plan is to take it off the road until March/April before either selling it or keeping for the summer.
I really want to keep it clean but original so the plans are:
New set of 14s/15s
Lower
Crystal front lights
M3 style rear lights
Leather
So I need all thouse bits for ?250-300 so anyone got any good information as to where I can get good bits cheap??

Welcome to the forums - looks like you got yourself a nice car there. I'm willing to bet when it comes time to sell you will be reluctant to part with it though  .
Keep an eye out in the For Sale section on the forum or contact Rich (Crazyquiff) on the forum if after Mk1 bits as he seems to be able to source most things!! If you are on a budget then sometimes GSF or ECP can offer cheaper alternatives to VW parts.
If there is something in particular you are after then stick an ad in the wanted section.
Anything else you need to know then just ask - or search through the forum posts, there is a wealth of info on everything Mk1 here.
Cheers,
Chris

Those are actually getting harder to find second hand in good condition, so make sure you don't give them away for peanuts!!!

Your car looks sweet as and i second ChrisB on his thoughts regarding your felings towards it if / when the time comes to re-sell.
As already mentioned, crazyquiff is a source of all things Mk1 (and his knowledge of the car is quite incredible too). The wheels fitted at the moment look smart - i believe they are known as 'bottle top' (not 100% sure though), and i have to say i've only seen a couple of sets - one on a mates car, and one for sale!
Although not always the bargain shopping centre, there is a wealth of parts available on ebay, as well as the for sale section on this here forum!

I picked the car up today and gave it a wash at a mates before driving it home and I love it. It runs incredibly well for a 17 year old car with 160000 miles on the clock and has less rattles than my pug!!
The wheels have cleaned up pretty well, didnt know they were rare or from another model… I guess i'm showing my lack of knowledge now lol. Any idea how much they might be worth cos I'm still not too keen on them and if they'll fetch good money its all the more for the fund!!
The interior is looking pretty tired so I'm looking at renewing all the carpets and getting a friends mum to reupholster the interior so that should save a bit.
I dont want to spend sill money on it, if I cant lower it for sensible money then I probably wont bother as ?600 is three times what I paid for the car!!
Planning on sourcing as many of the bits as possible second hand, breakers, ebay etc etc.

Is that good then?? I thought it was worth about ?300 so thought it was a good price in spite of the miles.
