Well hello and welcome. Your car is lookin real cool and if that needs a respray well mind needs scrappin. R u using it daily? If so keep it as it is. I worry that when I eventually get round to resprayin mine i'll get paranoid and wont want to take it out.

Yup - I've seen the car in the metal and can vouch that it could use a blow over with the old spray gun - Gaz is a damn fine shot with his digital camera!

Well thanks  lol..

Steve i've rang R&P woods and the rollers are outta action for a few months, i've been thinking if i should ditch this Carb idea or not? :dontknow:

Just sell all the bits ? :|

Dunno if its gonna be worth all the money?

Hi Gaz, I recognize the car from MR V thread on PVWM :D . Good to see you have ventured forth and signed up here.

Was it a single dellorto set up on a lynx manifold you were thinking?
I was thinking of going the carb route(twin DCOE 45's) for my audi transplant.

Then I thought sod it its not worth the hassle on an every day driver. They need to be tuned all the time to get benefit from them. A whole lotta love. I'm sticking with good ol k-jet.

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

Don't junk it now!  You are nearly there!  Honestly - you will not believe how much more responsive and better the car will be to drive.  We will set the carb up using the jetting data you got from Eurocarb then take it to the rollers at the Morgan garage near me.

Even if you decide its no good, nothing lost - just bolt the injection back on but seriously, you will be seriously impressed by it.

After this weekend my Mk1 should be back together so you can come and experiance that and then decide…

:?  hmm, im not sure steve? Maybe with twins? Everyone i've spoken to has said its a very unusual setup?  Esp to put on a gti!

The thing is its cost me around ?340+ just to buy the bits for this, then theres the setup on the rollers which is gonna be over ?100…. So over ?400 quid, you reckon its gonna be that much different to justify that?

And maybe regular setups?  :dontknow:

On top of that i've got my g/f's birthday, holiday+ spending money, MOT, Tax etc all due soon so its at a bad time too!

HMMMM :(

Rant over LOL

Oh hi KINS, yeah i'm a regular on the pvw forum, though i'd check this place out!

Not many people understand the single setup - thats why they aren't sure about it.

Seriously, I'll help you fit it and set it up - the difference in UNREAL.  There is one of the lads at tha Tynemouth Motorclub who used to Motor-Cross an 1800 Mk2 and he said his flew (indeed that manifold you have was on his motor).

I'm sure your g/f would love a new tent and sleeping bag for his bithday - then you can sling them in the back of the Mk1 and go on holiday in that (thatway anymoney you spend on MOT/Tax is holiday money)…

:D  i think she prefers majorca!

What do you reckon to the injector holes? Leave them in?

Also do you reckon we could set it up well enough using you manual to get me by for a few weeks/months until the rollers are an option?

See i have everything i need now (i think) Just once fitted it needs to be a daily driver?  Rather than have it off the road while the setting are fiddled with etc?

I'm thinking, and im confused! I'll try not to put it on E-Bay, iam tempted though! :banghead:

We can set it up according to the book, my gunson carb balancer and my ear - it will run 95% of where it would after a session on the rollers.

I've thought of a way around the injector issue without resoring to pennys and without having to cut any fuel lines or hoses…

Post

:|  Sounds better than pennies lol! How then? Cos we thought about just leaving them in didn't we?
Got the filters other day,  its all ready to bolt on now!

When would be the best time for you to get the lil beauty thrown on? Cos your swaying me back to the idea! 8)

Tempting isn't it!

Schweet!

Daft idea "sack off the holiday, whip the injectors out and plumb in a NOS rail!"

It'll not be this weekend 'coz I'm working on mine - next weekend perhaps?

All we do with the injectors is disonnect the fuel feed pipe, attach a short piece of fuel line with a jubilee clip or similar then put a bolt into the other end of the fuel line and jubilee clip that on - requires eight jubilee clips, four bolts and a piece of fuel pipe.  Probably cost a little more than 4p but at least it is easily reversed.

Out of interest - does anyone know how the injectors are fitted?  Do they screw in or are they push fit?

If they are screw in they'll be even easier - just unscrew them and screw bolts in the same size and thread…
