I personally think ?1500 is a good budget and depending on how high you set your sights could get you any number of solid Mk1s.

?1500 is a good solid budget. Check all the rust areas (as mentioned) and even look at cars for ?1800-?2000 as they may be willing to drop a bit (everyone puts a bit extra on when selling cars).
