Hello from the Isle Of Man ! ;)

Hey guys , I'm still searching around on the forum trying to work it all out and so far I'm getting on pretty well ! :) I'm only 17 years old and since 14 I was into remote control 1:5 scale petrol cars and I've spent a bloody fortune on it ! By this time I could of had a mint Mk1 GTI :( But anyway It's hard to find a Mk1 over here that would be for sale at a good price but after some searching and walking around where I live I managed to find a nice two door Mk1 GTI in the old british racing green and some nice alloys (Not sure on the make yet.) I left a note on the car if the guy could sell it and he contacted me saying that It's got a few modified parts and hopefully I will go and see it in a couple of days , shell it's self is in a good condition but it has some rust start to show up on the bottom of the door , front wing is slightely dented in , sills are starting to show rust and there's some tiny amount of rust showing up by the fuel cap ohh and I forgot that the steel bumpers are rusty as well but generally it looks solid … What should I check when I have a look at it (bodywork wise) All I know at the moment is that the golf had an engine conversion which is a Audi 80 2.0L engine , Neuspeed anti-roll bars , Audi Quattro front brakes & Golf Mk2 rear disc brakes and all possible bushes in the suspension have been replaced to some aftermarket ones …. suspension is starting to go so it could do with replacing or rebuilding , what do you guys think ? been wanting one for a long time now and I'd like to know what to be careful off before I'll manage to buy it if the guy even sells it ! It's a good forum btw :)

Welcome,
I never rush into anything, have a look at some of the projects on here. Things can look worse than they are, but also the opposite way round.
Take someone with a good knowledge of these cars.
There may a member near to you that could go with you.

Plety of knowledge on here it's a case of asking in the right Forums too.

Enjoy

Yeah I understand what you mean buddy , problem is that I don't really know anyone that knows about Mk1's inside and out about them but hopefully I should be able to have a look at my self on what needs doing body work wise and mechanically as I've been doing both now for three years and I think that for a 17 year old I get on pretty well with it :) I'll be going to see it on Saturday with my mate or dad and I'll have a close look at it as right now all I know is that it needs body work doing and that it would need new shocks as they are goin'
