Hello from Telford

Hello everyone,

I'm picking up my first mk1 tonight Its a 90G GTI Cabriolet. I paid 2k for it which i think is a bit high but its got a new roof, 12 months tax and MOT and most importantly, no rust anywhere.

I'll put some pics up later, i'm looking forward to getting it, I've had Polos, Lupos, Arosas, Cupras, mk2, 3 and 4 GTi's and currently got a A3 TDI DSG S line as my daily but never gone so far old school.

I live in Telford, Shrops if there are any meets about, i'll be happy to tag along as you dont see many mk1's about round here.

Balls, thought before i paid the guy tonight i'd do a HPI check for peace of mind.

its come back as stolen in 2000 and still wanted by insurers. Also it has had one colour change. Which is weird as it is original colour, grey

There are loads out there mate and a HPI check was a good move.  Flip it on its head.  It's a good thing, you could have paid the money then had the car taken off you in a few months  8O .  

It's a good spot by yourself.  Get back in there, find one you like, HPI check it and it'll come back absolutely yours… job done  :wink:

Welcome to the site, unlucky with you check  but as mentioned lots out there.  Keep searching and you'll find the perfect car.

Update, its an odd one this, did some investigations and the DVLA have no problem with it as it was recovered, however its on the insurance database as not recovered so its not CAT D. If it was registered as recovered then it would have been Cat D so obviously worth less. Its seems a good car so should i offer him 500 less as it should be cat D?

Or shall I just leave well alone and plead for my deposit back?

Hello mate, personally i'd leave well alone.

There are plenty genuine mk1's out there at the moment, i'd be glad i didn't give him the full whack and then find out!

I've drove past it a few times, dont know anything about it, but looks straight enough from a distance.

We just had a West Mids meet tonight in Oldbury and will be attending the FLF4's annual Dub Crooz from Wellington to Pattingham next Tuesday, if you have a mk1 by then and wanna pop along  :wink:

Yes it is that one! The insurance are coming back to him today about it but its also coming up as having a colour change, weird as its the original colour underneath, engine bay, under carpets etc so i dont think its been changed! However it looks straight because it has had a full paint job at some point.

Insurance got back to me, It was Stolen Recovered no damage. Its not been updated on the system for 9 years!!! Anyway they are going to do it now.

So 2100 is too much for me for a Cat D so he was sound and gave me my cash back…………..the search continues!
