Hello from Oz

or should I say "G'DAY!" (cringe)  
I have decided ot embark on a Mk1 Golf Rally car project here in Canberra Australia. Things are a little different here compared to the Euro/UK scene, our original 1974(ish) on models where a mix of Aussie assembled (LS) and German built (GLS). Mum and by brother went halves in one of the first LS models (saluki brown) and it was a fantastic car right up to its death (Mum stuck its nose in front of a speeding Ford Falcon) I myself had a Passat as my third car in the early eighties (daily drive is now a WRX).
The rally car project has been at the back of my mind for a couple of years now, this just seems to be the right time to turn it into reality.
So why join the mk1 owners club? well I hope to be able to pick your collective brains on a host of issues, including (but not limited to) "period" advertising copy, anything that VW themselves may have published rally wise in the 70s and maybe even some hints as to FIA holmologation of teh time.

Got any pics to post of your project car? Would be interesting to see if the Oz spec cars are much different to ours?

I have a FIA homologated rally Mk1 and can help you out with a few part numbers necessary. But I am sure VW Motorsport cannot supply them anymore and they are mega rare!

I also have a pic of the first rally Mk1 from '75 but not scanned it yet.

I am still looking for my base car… going to checkout a possible tomorrow. It has some rust in the hatch, will need to inspect the rest of the car. Still, the lady that owns it only wants $200 for it so we shall see what it is like.

Would LOVE to see the mk1 rally pics, and any scans of the homologation papers would totally make my day
