Greetings from the states everyone! I recently became the owner of a 93 Collector's Edition Cabriolet. I inherited it from my father with a blown motor. I've since bastardized the motor with a gti block and camshaft and the original top end. I usually just use forums for parts sourcing and some general knowledge, but I think I'll need a little more than that with this car. Thanks in advance for the welcome! -Nick

Ok, here are some pictures I dug up. First off, we have the day the motor blew up:

And the trip to the shop:

We found the block to be bad so I found a cheap GTI motor and swapped that in, unfortunately, the head was no good. So we pulled the old head and mated it with the GTI block:

Once I got that together I fired her up! (I had to prove to my family that I actually made it run again!)

And here she sits (the big reveal), barely running:

So there's still a lot of work to be done. Clearly, this is my project car. My plans are to 1) Get the damn thing running. We are struggling to get it to idle properly… it runs fine once its warmed up, but cold starts it hunts around and then sputters out. My thoughts are that it may be the idle control valve, but after cleaning it really didn't run any better. Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 2) Fix up the interior. New carpet, replace the water temp sensor, gauge bezel, and convert factory incandescent bulbs to LED (I'm thinking white). Also, replace the five channel amp that has petered out and get my subwoofer back. 3) Respray the exterior and fix up the trim. I've noticed parts aren't super easy to come by. That's what originally led me to this site… even though shipping costs are outrageous right now!

So that's the story. Thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to having a good forum for this car!

Welcome Nick ;)

Nice cabby, bet the original blown motor was good!

Could be cold start valve problem? If you search on Youtube for 'K-Jetronic' there's some good guides on there plus an old training video on how the system works and sets-up. That may help too if you're not familiar with the system.

The steering wheel looks like an airbag wheel off a Porsche 944/968?

Looking forward to seeing your updates

Jetronic is pre-digi2, correct? I think that doesn't apply to me?

Also, that's just the OG wheel. I guess you get different ones in the UK?

Welcome to the forum dude. Nice looking Cabby you have there. Good work on the enging conversion. I had a set of OG rims on my Mk1 when I bought it. They're pretty rare over here I think :)

Thanks smudger, I was actually thinking about getting rid of the wheels, but perhaps I'll just polish them up and get them to match the rest of the refurbed chrome on the car!

Can anyone confirm about the K-Jetronic being the predecessor to digifant?

Thanks guys!

I think those side markers are a US trim thing. I haven't seen them on any of YOUR cars!
