Hello from new member!

Hi Everyone I thought i'd join because i've just purchased my new toy!
Being a 91 Rivage leather does it qualify as a MK1 (I know it's a MK1 shape) but they stopped making MK1's in hard top in 83, And I hope I can quiz everybody on here for where to find parts, insurance etc etc.
I also look forward to chatting on here and meeting people at any get togethers in the future.

Hi and welcome, dojo is pulling your chain!! (bit of tintop/cabby rivalry!!)

MK1's are welcome including comvertables and if you check out the register figures we now have more cabs than any other single series!

Get some pics up for us to have a look at!

dojodubber…..I am now in training to give you a right good thrashing for what you just said….Blasphemer! Of course a Rivage is a mk1…..It's the best mk1 ever built! Jealousy is a very ugly trait dojodubber!  :x

I will have to explain myself better for you to understand, what I meant was this:

I think they produced hard & soft tops together for around 4/5 years?, Then they retired the hardtop but kept the soft top for another 10 years or so.

So my Rivage Leather is a MK1 but with more modern bits on it so in my eyes it's a MK1 phase 1,2, or whatever but it is a true MK1!

I could be petty and say VW kept the best running longer ie the soft tops, (but that is just  a matter of opinion and I think my opinions matter).
But I still want a campaign as well.

Dojodubber needs a pummeling to within an inch of his life……And you are explaining yourself!  8O ..What's up with you?..Now it's like this, you will hold his arms and I will give him the same lesson Ali gave Bona Vena in that legendary battering! It will go something like this…

listen newbie, if you wanna come here and pretend you know best then that is fine. we tin top owners know deep inside that we are driving real mk1s.

good luck convincing yourselves otherwise.  :mrgreen:

A quick glance at the registered cars figures will soon show that cabriolets are the real mk1's as there are more of those than any of the others…In fact more than the campaigns and series ones combined! So there! :evil:

As I stated earlier I am looking for a Campaign on an A plate like the one I had some years ago, What's wrong with owning two different sorts of MK1's ie tin top and cab they are both real MK1 Golf's when VW scrapped (sorry i mean discontinued) tin tops and started making MK2's why did they carry on making the cab in MK1.
I have joined this forum to chat, meet people with the same interests in MK1's, and have advice on hunting down parts and stuff. And all this about MK1's what is it all about is it all about rivalry, jealousy I haven't got a clue i'm new to this!

you'll get used to Walt  :wink: he should have given you some time to get used to the site before going into one but I've laughed out loud reading many of his threads! complete nutter  :lol: (in a good way! honest walt)

a Mk1 is a Mk1 regardless of what's used for the roof

but I like my non sunroof tintop black oven… and boy was it an oven earlier!

why only a few months ago he was extolling the virtues of gerbils!!!! Now THATS worrying!!
