Hello From Milton Keynes

Hello Guys,

My Girlfriend and I have just brought a 1988 Golf Clipper Cabriolet. Its in need of a bit of TLC but otherwise its a lovely car and I look forward to lots of long journeys in it!

If anyone has the time,I could use some help with the following questions.

1. Is my car a Mark 1 or a Mark 2? According to this site (very well layed out by the way!) and others, Golf never made a Mark 2 Cabrio which is fair enough, however, could someone please tell me when I am looking for parts from ebay and scrappers, should I buy MK1, MK2 or Cabrio only parts!

2. My car news a new main beam headlight (the smaller one of the two), can anyone tell me what the proper name for this part is. Will a Mark 1 or Mark 2 light fit and where can I get one?

Sorry for being a complete newbie to all of this but my brother has been into Golf's for years and he has finally persauded me to join the club .

Hello and welcome to the site. You're right the car you have is a MK1, the later GTIs and Clippers used some parts from the MK1 and had revisions like the grill so that they slotted into the MK2 range more successfully, however it was still a MK1.

The inner spots are just that mate. Some earlier hatchbacks had fog lights but the later Cabbys all have spotlights.

You should check out the MK meet near you every month.
