Hello from Leeds
Ive just purchased a 1991 Mk1 Golf GTI Sportline Black. Although I'll be honest Im not the biggest car man, for some reason since my teenage years Ive always been a fan of the black sportline. A couple of weeks ago I managed to get hold of one which ive gotta say Im well chuffed with.
From looking at this site there are some mint examples of the Golf Sportline and I determined to get mine to a similar standard hopefully anyway. The car is to be honest in very good condition but I wondered if anyone could help me with a few queries I have.
Firslty Ive seen in an earlier forum what the rear badges were and my car does have these which is a start. However mine doesnt have any side badges ie the Sportline badge in front of the rear wheel arch should it ? i presume so ? If so any Ideas where I can get these from ?
Also on some Ive seen badges underneath the side repeaters, what is that badge ? again where would I get that from ?
Finally on the front grille my VW badge is chrome should it be black ? also Ive seen some with GTI badges to the side is this standard ?
Any help would be really appreciated !!
Thanks Jonesy

Sportline - great choice! 8)
I don't know about all the badges, but I'm pretty sure that you should have the sportline decals behind the front wheel arches, and that the front GTI badge should be black.
I'm sure someone who knows will be along soon to put you right!
Lets see some pics too

Then the decals should be in front of each rear wheel arch (still available from VW Classic parts centre) and the grille badge should be black with a GTI badge on the grille to the right of the centre.
The badge beneath the side repeater is standard to all cabby's and reads Karmann.

Hi
This is mine my the way. Bought it a few weeks ago from Ebay ! Generally Im chuffed to bits ! Like most, i wanna return it to original, although I havent done anything yet to it due to other commitments I have been purchasing various parts etc which I intend to install ASAP. Are there anything I should look out for ? any common faults ?
Sorry trying to the pics up ? How do you do it ??

Any faults are generic to all Mk1's really, so whatever problems you experience you'll find all the solutions on the forum.
Looking forward to your pics.

Have a look at page 7 of this pdf, that shows a Karmann badge:

And there's a bit more info here:

(The steering wheel shown on that link isn't UK spec, it's what was fitted to the European mainland Sportline's)
