Hello from Ipswich

Just introducing myself, Marc from Ipswich..

I've just collected my first Mk1 Clipper, and although in need of some tidying, I think I'm gonna like it.

I bought it cheap to give me something to do as I've just cleared my garage out.. it has some running problems,

first being carb related, although this could be something to do with the k&n attached or should I say not attached and a k&n breather.. my first thing to do is put the orig airbox back on and see how it goes..

second problem is cannot get many gears and difficult to get reverse, i'm hoping its something to do with linkage, and not an actual gearbox problem, but am yet to look at it yet, any advise on any known problems would be handy…

third problem is that the interior is an absolute state, although not to ripped, might be able to clean it up and tighten everything, the seats rock side to side…  btw can the material be taken of the seats easy enough ??

Fourth and last prob that I know of is the wheels are horrible!!! I've got some spare MIMs though that I like, will just have to swap the tyres over.. so fairly safe there!

Good points from what I have seen so far is brand new matching elec mohair roof, with no leaks and helios blue (that spelt right?)

So i hope to be on here a fair bit soon, getting ideas and trying to help others..

some pics for you (hope these work)

speak soon

Hello and welcome  :D

seat wobble is easily sorted with new plastic guides, put a reply to your gear trouble in the running gear post

Looks clean too

Welcome to the site. Got to agree with you on the wheels but looks like you have a sound car there. Hopefully the engine and gearbox problems are as straightforward as you think so you can get driving it.

Hi there, most of the things should be fairly easy to sort, as Phil said the seats will new new plastic guides these are the white pieces of plastic that go between the runners and subframe and are only a few pence each  - you'll poss. need all four of them. The gear linkages do wear and could just need a tweak or an overhaul kit  - not expensive but a fiddlily job. Should be all ready for when the summer gets here then   :D

I may aswell get the overhaul kit, for the sake of ?15ish quid.. and then at least gear changes should feel tight..

Yes, I'd hope all ready in the next month or so, depending on how much time I get to work on it.

Cheers
Marc
