Hello from Geoff

Hi Guys,

Picked my MKi Golf GTi Karmen up yesterday and spent the morning washing and cleaning it.

Bought it from Ebay from Norwich and I live in Warrington so was really apprehensive as couldn't view it first and a long way to travel. So after a an early morning start on buses and train (how expensive is public transport!!) I arrived in Norwich at 2.30pm met at the station by the seller.

Really worried now that the car was how he described as I was stuck in Norwich and taken 6 hrs to get there. We pulled up at his house and there it was looking great in gleaming black, my heart racing.

Well after a thorough close up inspection and test drive I had a few issues, we had a few heated words, nearly had a fight, kissed and made up and agreed on a revised price. Job done everyone happy! Then came the long drive home (6hrs) through wind, rain, sun and darkness and she never missed a beat. Quality!!

Arrived home at 11pm totally knackered but smiling from ear to ear. Got up this morning and first thing I did was look at her on the drive. Sad but true. Think it fair to say I have all the symptoms of a MK1 convert, is there any cure or do I just keep visiting here for counselling?????

I'm afraid there is no known cure for this.  Many a Mk1 owner has tried to sell their vehicle but have either pulled out at the last minute or bought a another a few days later.
If you're mechanically minded, say goodbye to your girlfriend/fiancee/wife/kids/parents because you'll have your head buried under the bonnet for the next few months.
Check the thread on the chat section 'you know you've been driving a mk1 too long when…'.  It will give you an idea of what's to come.

Have you still got a cheshire cat grin on your face from this morning?  Thought so.

Welcome to the site - the only free counselling you'll find.

Danny

PS 6hrs!?! Were you pushing it home?

Already got rid of the responsibilities hence buying the MK1!

Can't smile wide enough me Danny!

Think I must of gone down every 'A' road out of Norwich till I hit the M1, not to mention the bloody lorries holding everything up. That'll teach me to forget my A-Z!!

And another thing, why is it that when we have a bit of rain the numpties slow right down to 20mph??

Well you know what its like in the UK.  A bit of rain/snow/hail/cloud/sun/day/night/other vehicles, someone slows down and everyone else gets caught up behind them.  Can't remember the last time a got over 60mph on the southern stretch of the M1

Welcome Geoff,

As far as i remember i saw a MK1 on ebay from Norwich but forgot to watch it. If it's the same black MK (most likely) i know the chap who you brought this from.

And one of his mates used to own my MK1 from Norwich ;)

As far as i can remember it was recently resprayed as a friend of his owned him a favour. - I'd get some Meguirs NXT Generation wax on it.. and put some photos up later :)

Thanks for that info, I knew it had been resprayed recently but according to the seller (Daniel) to his knowledge it hadn't!! He'd owned the car for the past 3 yrs and bought it off his mate who worked for the same VW dealership who had it for 3 years before him but according to him in the six years he'd known the car it had never had any paintwork done. Why don't people tell the truth??? Any more info you have would be appreciated. Geoff
