Yeah the chelmsford meet looks good. Would be good to come along and see some mk1's up close.
I am after a mk1 sooner rather than later so i have some time to make sure everything is ok bodywork wise etc before i pass my test.

I would prefer a 3door to be honest. The engine isnt too much of a problem, it must be a 1.1 or a 1.3 because of the cambelt side engine mount) but i have a low mileage 1.3 MH engine (new gaskets, cambelt, clutch, recent service etc) from a mk2 polo coupe S that i can use.

Yeah, i would deffinetly be very interested if it was manual and i knew the insurance would be ok.
If i get a 1.1 or 1.3 then i can use the 1.3 engine from my old polo project car that has hydraulic tappets, new gaskets, new belts, oil flush, hand polished head, new clutch etc etc.
And i think the 1.5 might be a bit higher on insurance.

Hi everyone,

im 17 and i have just got hold of a mk1 golf gx 1.5. I love it to bits and the insurance isnt to bad either. The only problem i have got at the moment is that every morning i start it up and it will try to stall for about 5 mins. And then when it does perk up the revs will go very very low when pulling way from junctions etc. I think it may be a problem with the carb but not sure. Any ideas ?

Hey mate.
I dont know much about the golf engines but that does sound like a fueling issue. Do the 1.5's use pierburg carbs? If its as bad as the 2E3 on my old polo then its certainly to blame. Sounds like the auto choke is a bit funny, perhaps not warming up properly.

If you dont mind me asking, how much are you currently paying for insurance on the 1.5? What kind of a policy are you on and are there any special circumstances? (parents policy etc.)

Cheers
