Hello. Another 1 from Sussex!

Hello.
Have finally got around to joining after reading loads of threads!
I have a mk1 1600 gti in black. All pretty original and trying to keep her that way. Although this is proving difficult, some bits are impossible to find! Unfortunately she is off the road as of last week until I can find a cylinder head (proving very difficult!)  :( Typically she passed her MOT the day before!

Welcome mate, nice to see another member not far away.
For the cylinder head stick up a post in the wanted section. Heres a recent link aswell of someone selling a whole 1.6 engine. Not 100% sure if the right one for yours but you might be lucky.

Welcome to the club. I'm sure you'll find your parts here and get your car back on the road soon.

Wife, kids, car……not necessarily in that order.

I'm not sure about that engine either? I have a horrible feeling I'm going to have major trouble finding engine parts for a 1.6 :(

Thanks. I'll check it out. Mine has a crack in 3, between the inlet and ex, goes through to the water jacket. Don't think it is repairable.

ETA. Have sent a message about the 1.6 gti engine

I'm not a great fan of re wealded heads tbh. I'm sure you will find one on here though. Do you know the engine code?

Engine code EG. I have been advised to give up with the EG engine (due to the scarcity of bits) and just put a DX in. But I really want to keep the car original……

That engine on my previous post was a EG. I've got DX in mine but agree with you at keeping it original.

Thank you for posting that. Although I don't think I need one now. I should have put on here that I have just bought a head today. Off of a member on here. Coming all the way from the Shetland Isles on Monday! I was sent some pics and it looks in good nic. Fingers crossed the car will be back on the road shortly. Can't wait!
