Hello and some initial advice pls.........

Hi everyone how are you?  Well my 2nd car when I was 17 was a Mk1 3 door Golf - loved it.  A few cars later, I had a GTI Convertible - loved it and now in hingsight, I wish I kept it. Also had a Mk2 GTI and loved that.  

So now looking to buy a mid 80's GTI.  Wanting a good mechanically sound car which needs some TLC which I am prepared to do.

But was thinking of doing 1) respray job to the colour I like (navy blue or mercedes silver), 2) new hood and 3) putting in a restored 2l GTI 16v engine into the car.

Does anyone know if the new engine is option is viable?  Wanting the car to look original but with extra speed under the bonnet - I know the purists might not agree, but I like speed!!!!!

Also - can anyone recommend a company for a good respray in the Surrey area?
