Hello all

Hi my name is monica and I wanted to introduce myself to you all.
I own a 89 black clipper cabrio and have had it for 3 years now. The main reason I came across this site was because my lovely ex boyfriend decided to cut the hood open on my beloved golf when I was away working at sea so I need to replace it soon as!! (Anyone want to sort him out for me??!!)
I live up in the north of scotland near Wick in Caithness. There are one or two fine examples of mk1s kicking around up here but they are generally pretty scarce. It's not exactly the right place to have a cabrio with the weather up here. Donning a survival suit is a good option for hood down excursions!!
Happy motoring to you all!! :D

Hello there and welcome to the site!!  Sorry to hear that your ex vandalised your motor…. not good  :?

Try the car hoods northern link on the left here… it's a sponsor of ours… if you were a member (?15) they offer a 10% discount I beleive…. so more than worth the joining fee.

Hope you get it sorted

Thanks for that. I have been in touch with those people and they are going to get back to me with a price and the whereabouts of the nearest place for fitting.

There is a guy on here selling one too so waiting to hear back from him as well. Looks like a cheaper option.

I was going to claim off my insurance but they want to write the car off, which I thought ridiculous so I withdrew my claim and decided to fix up the old thing myself. She is in very good nick other than the hood being destroyed.

I am planning on joining the club as soon as I get paid again, this has been a very long month!!

Good to hear from you Spudfingers! :D

Sail to Orkney then back to the mainland 6 times a day! It's a glorified bus service really. :banghead:

Hi Crazyfist

Thanks for that, I did see there is a meeting on in May at some point so I will have to see if I am off then, I work 2 wk on, 2 off. Do you know where the most northerly meet has been? Perhaps I will find out a lot more once I join the club.

Thanks  :D

I would love to go on that tour. Chances of having sun are a bit slim though!

Been up that sort of area a few times, highlands and islands.  Scotland is a stunning country, we dont get big pointy rocks down here!

Hi Monica, welcome  :D

The trouble with insurance companies is that they will only get quotes from recognised dealers which means it's silly money for a repair and then cheaper to give you the write off value.

Good for you getting it sorted yourself and keeping another cabby on the road!  8)

Thanks this is a great forum. Wish I had thought of it before. Looks like something good has come out of a bad situation! I must say I hardly ever drive my cabby, she's only done 1k since the last MOT. Don't know whether just to run her now or try to keep the mileage down or what. I also have a E reg mr2 mk1 and 51 plate rav4. Thought I had a bit of a problem but it seems a lot of people on here have a lot of cars each. Makes me feel better!

Well the motorway is a bit of a novelty for me! Maybe you can make it up here for another visit sometime. Give me a shout if you are, not many golfs up in these parts!
