  hello to all members of the board.my name is big stew and reside in manchester! i currently am the proud owner of a mark one gti in mars red.to which has made my eyes bleed financially since i bought the car months ago!!!! now she is on the road and at last behaving!!! could someone plese explain the digits on chassis mine states dw?? what does this mean to the car …and when and where is the next north west meet? look forward to meeting some of you guys soon…many thanks stew

The 'd' in 'dw' means that your car was built between August 1982 and July 1983.

Have a look in the regional meets section of the forum, the north west has quite a large group with regular meets.

 yeah i will certanly get some pics posted.i have worked in the body shop industry for 20 years and after much buffing….and even more..and months of detailing she is like a new pin!! i have spent over 2 grand on all the engine..oil pump..head…cam…etc etc etc etc….then hit all the suspension with new…..then steering with new…….then all the brakes with new.the list goes on lol…..just having the timing done at vw specialists in lancs to get this piper cam correct/ wish i had fitted a standard now tickover is a\ little lumpy!!!….she was sold to me as a campain with pirreli wheels….sliding roof..etc. but i got my doubts off the prfix numbers…………its so cool people smile and wave in other vw golfs  …my chum has a r32 new model and side by side i know which one id personally go for…the r32 any day!!!!! only fooling the mark one is class!!!!!!!!!a real drivin car!!……north west crew where \are ya cheers stew

Could still be classed as a Campaign if the chassis no. is higher than 448319.
