Hello All. Thinking of joining the Mk1 scene

Hello everyone.

Been pondering with the thought of buying a Clipper. Was doing some research and came across this site so thought i'd pop in and pick some brains.

Im just in the process of getting rid of the last bits of my Subaru Impreza (im not a chav  :) ) I had it for 3 years and spent a fortune on making it a usable daily driver and weekend track car. Got it to a safe 412bhp+425lbft Tq but after gearbox issues within a few months of each other i decided to strip it

Im an Aircraft Engineer in the Royal Navy. Done various jobs including winchman/door gunner, Accident investigation, various front line tours. Now im an Avionics supervisor on Lynx. Been in for 9 years now. Married with a 14 month old  :D

I did all the work on my impreza except the engine build so im not worried about getting stuck in

I would really like to get hold of a lovely mint clipper to own or maybe something that requires some work. I think they look awesome by themselves, but i probably would tinker with suspension and engine.

My other option is to build a stripped out Mk1 golf GTI for a weekend toy. Not to sure what reaction that will get after reading front page. I love track days though

Now you know everything about me

Welcome to the site!!!  get a clipper for the summer and a tintop for a track toy.  As long as they are on the road most people on here don't mind modded mk1's mate.  I'm going to try and get a wedge of a modern engine in mine at some point   .  I've got a standard tintop in not bad condition and a rust bucket I tear around in to meets and stuff.  For the price of your impreza you'll easily afford two

Glad you found us mate and hope you join the mk1 family… read the buyers guide on here for what to check on these old cars bud.

Don't do it, you'll get hooked, once you're in there's no way out

PS They're really rather brilliant   , welcome to the madness (and to the site), the Mk1 Golf accept no substitute

My New Year's resolutions are: 1. Stop making lists. B. Be more consistent. 7. Learn to count.

Thanks for the welcome.

Im busy with work and family at mo but really looking forward to reading some project threads and what i can get into the engine bay. I am addicted to track and ive got an image of a stripped out mk1 with roll cage, single seat etc etc in my head. Wont go away lol. Only other thing tempting me for a track car is a Cateram 7 but the price is scary for what it is.

And on the other side i love the clippers for how they look. subtle mods and they look amazing imo

Just looking for a car that will give me that smile factor again.
