GTI / Campaign / Pirelli Editions ?????

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, just thought i'd join to ask a few questions.

Basically, i'm on the lookout for a Mk1 GTI to use as a Fast Road / Trackday / Weekend Car.

Looking around at the different models on various Mk1 Models, i've been trying to find out the history and spec of all these different models.

The 2 i'm mainly interested in are the Campain Editions and the Pirelli Editions (although i've only ever heard of one of the latter)

Any help (with pics preferably) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

from what I can gather they are the same mate.  In Germany it qas known as the pirelli as far as I'm aware  :dontknow:

The campaign normally came with a factory fit steel sunroof, a leather bound steering wheel and a few extras.  I think these were the last of the line before the mk2 so they were given little extras to sell them …. but I may be wrong… others will comment and help you further bud…

Not 100% sure but think pirelli edition was basically the same as the campaign but colour coded arches and bumpers. Personally if your thinking of track day i dont think you will find many of these non standard

Hi and welcome!
Yes, in a nutshell, the Pirelli edition was never available in the UK. There's 2 variations, one has body coloured arch trims and bumpers. The other is similar to a campaign, ie a few little extras, none of which are unique in themselves but together were offered as a "special sales campaign" to help sell off the last few Mk1 GTIs. If you found a Pirelli edition in the UK, it would have been personally imported (the V5 would say it was first registered overseas or something like that). A Mk1 Campaign is as good as the same thing, and much easier to find, there's still a good few popping up for sale all the time! :D

Don't pass by non-Campaign GTIs, there's so little difference between a Campaign and non-Campaign anyway, and if you're planning on track days, etc then these differences account to nothing anyway.

I agree ,if you want to blast around a track a leather steering wheel and a f/f sunroof won't matter.Driving any mk1 will put a smile on your face good look with your search

Hello & welcome

If its going to be a full on track car your are properly going to take most of the Campaign bits off, so just look for a good GTI be it a campaign or not.

As above………

Door pull pins, sunroof, steering, wheel, tinted glass, etc.. will make no
difference when blatting round a track, so look for a standard GTi, to
widen the search, good luck by the way! :y:

Some classes of racing don't allow tinted glass, for safety reasons.
