Good Evening

Hello there,

Just signed up after browsing for a while!

I had a 1.6 GTI a few years back, but my intentions outweighed my abilities so I passed it on for someone else to weld every other square inch (yes, it was that bad!)

Just come across a 1.5 GL auto 5 door locally, so here to read up and pick some brains to help me make my decision!

Thanks in advance!

Love the way you signed Gr4h4m… that's not how it's spelt on your birth certificate is it?…. probably a good time to point out that my parents didn't christen me "Spudfingers" lol

Welcome aboard my friend.  You'll enjoy it on here as it's fun yet informative… don't think I've asked a question that no one can answer yet so your probably in good hands

have you kept your gti or has it been sold?  Some really do suffer from rust after 25 years but they hold up far better then others their age.

What got you into mk1's?  How many have you owned?

Welcome aboard and hope you can make some regional meets

Cheers for the welcome guys,

spudfingers: had to put the 4's in as someone already had the traditional spelling! not very imaginative I know! :dontknow:

The GTi went a few years back, had a couple of retro motors (a mini and a 190e)and a couple of modern boxes in between.

I've always prefferred older cars, and a mate of mine has had 3 or 4 mk1's over the years, when I sold the GTi i said i would get another MK1 at some point. Having grown up, got married and bought a house, Ive now been allowed to tinker again so perfect time for a new retro daily!

I think my main Q's will be about the auto boxes really, so I'll head to tech….
