Golf mrk 1 Gli convertible 1981

Hi there, I have just joined and bought a mrk 1 Golf Karmann Gli 1981 convertible, when it was sold to me the guy said it was changed from a Gli to a Gti by VW? It says Gti on the back as well, i know you can just stick a badge on though but was he talking crap???
Also looking for a replacement carpet?

Gli was a 1.6 and gti's are 1.8 i think thats the differnece so its had an engine change ? :dunno:

My Golf has a 1.8i engine in it? On the log book it says 1.8 Gli?
Another thing, is the steering really hard, I know its due to no power steering, but didnt realise it was so bad lol
Also can the braking system be updated to discs all round?

it will be a gli the gti came out in 83/84

would of had a 1.6 and engine changed with a 1.8 and changed on the log book

is your car green by any chance?

Not green mate its a blue/purple metalic colour, it says 1.8 gl not gli, even though the engine is a 1.8i?

sounds like its a 1.5GL thats had an engine upgrade then, unlikely that VW did it.
