Golf 1 1980 GF motor.

Hi to all

I'm from South Africa and I just bought a mk1 golf last week (non runner).
At first I though it was a 1100 by the physical apperance, but found out after a bit of research on this site that it's a 1.3!

I've made an adapter plate to fit the carb off a newer model vw as I cannot get a replacement Solex carb. I have also replaced the points in the dizzy as it kept losing spark.

It is running now but the engine still idles for plus minus 5 secs after turning the ignition off. Cam timing marks all line up and this happens no matter if I retard or advance the dizzy.

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. and if possible does anyone have a pdf on the GF motor, got a Haynes workshop manual but it only covers the newer engines.
