First time Mk1 owner

Hi all,

I'm a Mk1 virgin. Just bought my first which is an x reg Cabrio GLi. Cost me ?400 with a year's ticket and 6 month's tax. The body work is sound and the engine's only done 100K (or so it says). The hood has a small tear in it but nothing major. Came with the whole GTI kit, i.e. extra guages, bucket seats, four headlights, etc, etc.

I reckon I've got a pretty good deal. What do you all reckon?

If the body, interior and mech is in good fettle ?400 is a good price.  You can get a new hood for less than ?200 I believe.

Done good there! good price too I recon.. In comparison I paid ?200 for a a mk1 that needed more welding than anything

Hello and welcome - sounds like you got yourself a bit of a bargain there. Would have thought from your descriprion is worth at least ?800+, what colour is it?

Well, I'm pleased to hear that I did alright and thank you all for such a warm welcome. I reckon I may become a regular here. I'll upload a pic of the "beast" as soon as I get my digi camera up and running.

Nice to see some more early cabriolets. Sounds like you got a good deal there. In comparison I paid over ?1000 for my 1983 'A' reg cabriolet with 7 months MOT and 2 months tax. It was low milage (55,000) with history to back it up as well. I still think I paid too much though, but I wouldn't change it for the world!!
