I'd be interested in any tips on spraying Laquer (Spelling?!?)
done a full resto on mine myself which finished (well sort of) last year, but the prep work wasn't the best, little crisp packet like, so getting a pro to prep it for me but respraying it again myself… but laquering it this time to protect the paint better (bird mess has cracked it in places)
can you get some pics up of your car etc? sounds like it'll be nice when it's finished

AHHHHH dont pay money for someone elses patientce , you will be far more patient with your own project and that is all that prepping is about. Do you know much about paint ?? how do you mean by crisp packet finish ? did the paint start to craze up off the surface of the pannel ?? any metalic colour will need 2 coats of laquer to give it proper shine and lastability , a few runs here and there is far easier to correct that a dry finish ,so in future get stuck in . the first coat of shiney (laquer) should be fairly dry and put on at a high pressure , let this go off for 5 or so minutes . This is to promote grip on the pannel , so you can put the second coat on wetter and shinier without it all falling onto the floor .

welcome to the site, sounds like you've started a bit of a project there - nice one, I do like those bbs rims from the polo I think they'll look really smart. Bargin engine from the evil bay well done.
Hi M8 , yeah the rims are kind of a new skool look on a retro ride , i have done them in a coarse metalic black center with a mirror polished outer lip , very smutty . I am trying to keep everything OEM+ and old skool'ish without neglegting the era of the car (if such a thing can be done) and ofcorse without going over my ?1500 budget !!!!! I like the comment about evil bay but i must say i dont understand why ?? surly a parts and contacts source such as ebay should be a good thing ??

I think the main problem with evilbay is everything is "RARE", even if it is still regularly available, and also the amount of scammers that use it. I have had a couple of bargains myself, but understand the limitations of it.
Haa Haa yeah , how long before adverts strat reading "RARE MK3 GOLF 8V done 100,000 miles !!! " A Good point well made

By crisp packet I mean the prep work wasn't too good so the reflection in the paint looks all crumpled.. like a crisp packet
the paint went on really well I think, got 2 bubbles around the filler neck but that's it!
watched my mate who sprays the other week put laquer on and he did what you said, a light, dry coat first and then the second coat he put on a bit slower and thicker! came out perfect
