Just signed up to this site after having a read through of some of the DIY guides.
I have recently bought a lovely '89 Cab
(I also have a '72 1200 Beetle 
)So far so good! Apart from this morning when it was SUUUUUUUUPER cold & had to scrape ice off from the INSIDE!?!?! haha!

where bouts in Hants are you? theres a few of us in Portsmouth if thats anywhere near ya?
As for ice inside screen, id be checking the seal at top of windscreen, and inner door seals too. if any of them are broken will let moisture in and cause water/ice inside car.

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines
