DubPartz has Landed

Hello All,

Just joined up to this very impressive site. Been driving MK1's on and off for 20yrs now, having also dabbled in MK2's and Corrado G60's as well as a long term love affair with the trusty Jetta. Currently have an '83 MK1 GTI in Alpine White, an '87 MK1 Cabby GTI in silver and a MK2 Jetta in black.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks chaps. I thought some of the names were familiar. Here's some pics of the tintop. The cabby is a recent purchase and needs a bit of TLC so I haven't included any pics of that.

It certainly was Rob. The fool won them twice !  :?  He said he was selling them on behalf of his mate, Graham and it just so happend that gsignsolutions (g for graham perhaps ??) won them twice. These in addition to many other items he was selling. It was so blatant. I alerted a few people who had bid on his items and I think one of them reported the seller to Ebay. No sign of him being booted off yet but he seems to be lying low. He didn't respond to my 'probing' question.
I mate of my would have been interested but it leaves a sour taste when you lose trust in a seller.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome

Hi there dubpartz - love the GTI :y: . I've a white myself that I'm working on - has no side stripes and is on standard nine spokes. Your pics have convinced me sides stripes and ATS are the way to go. What size ATS wheels are they? How much did you pay for them?

Thanks Mark. It's good to see another white one. I deliberated long and hard over whether to put the stripes back on after the car was resprayed but felt it looked naked without them, and even more so without the arch extensions. I feel the body looks too deep and far too white without the stripes to break it up.

Here's a before and after pic.

The wheels are the ATS Cups, but in a smaller size to the ones you'll usually see on MK1's & 2's. These are 6Jx15 with an offset of 35, so the cup is not as deep as the larger 7Jx15's with the offset of 28.
I did originally have that size fitted but suffered with arch rubbing problems on the rear, despite trying out both 50 & 45 series tyres.
I picked this set up in Germany a couple of years ago and they fit nicely under the arches. They had to be refurbed and as nobody locally offered a 'diamond cut' service I got them powder coated and eventually decided the black detailing needed adding so carefully did it myself by hand. It was fiddly          :banghead:
The wheels cost me about ?80, plus ?120 for the refurb.

It was worth the effort! It looks great! It needed the stripes, you made the right decision!  :)

Sounds like an absolute bargain - car does look great. Totally agree about the stripes, particlualry in the bottom photo. So could be stripes and ATS this summer, the ATS classics have also taken my eye.
