Buyers Guide?

Hi All,
This is my first post so firstly hello to all.
I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice to a new Mk1 owner. I Purchased the car off E-bay over the weekend and plan to collect it tonight. I know my way around a car but was wondering if there was anything specific to look out for on this type of vehicle. The car is an 1983 Golf C Formel E with the 1093cc engine. It has a years ticket on it so I not too worried about its condition, but it would be handy to know if theres anything i can keep an eye out for.

Thanks in advance for any help :D

Welcome!!

You want to look for rust, everywhere! Particularly:
- front valence
- inner wings around headlamps and right up near the windscreen
- inner and outer sills
- windscreen frame
- A-pillars
- rear inner and outer arches
- rear valence
- rear panel near number plate screws

Don't worry too much about doors, tailgate and wings as all cheap secondhand

All the mechanicals are relatively cheap but check smokey exhaust, oil leaks (around valve cover), clean oil cap and they function correctly with no funny noises. Also check clutch cable not pulling through the bulkhead!

A nice original car is best so no hacked electrics with badly installed alarms and stereos.

Good luck  :D

Car need a good T-cuting, looks more Terrys orange the Mars red, but theres seems to be little to no rust on the shell.
I've noticed a possible engine problem (got a post in Small block) but it drives fine. Think I found a gem.

Cheers :D
