Bloody ~ Forigners

Greetings all.

I'm Mike, currently living in Berkshire, for another month at least. I will be moving to Vancouver B.C Canada.

I have decided that once there, ill be buying a mk1 golf, or as they know them a Rabbit GTi.  I plan on turning this into quite the little euro pocket rocket.  give the old "yank tanks" a shock.

This will be my first VW, so i will no doubt have many a questions for you all.

So any tips or info you have, i would be gratefull

take her easy

Mike

Hi Mike and welcome. Any thoughts on specifics of what you'll do to turn your Rabbit in to a rocket?

I think you ought to be looking to source some Euro parts before you go over there. They command high prices on the Vortex forum in the States ! 8O

Well from what I have researched so far, I like the idea of the 20v turbo conversion.  with aftermarket management it seems some what straight forward.  ill have access to a lift and a whole range of tools….

is there any other engines that you could recommend?

im adding all this up and its getting a little pricy.  I might leave the engine as it for the time being, and fix the body  work first.  is there much you can do to the standard 1.8 8v?

welcome!
20vt is a good conversion and its being done quite alot now so if you want it to be a one off or different then i'd suggest another route.
Personally, i think if i got a gti then i'd keep the 1.8 8v engine or if your lucky enough to find a 1.6 then definately keep the engine standard.

good luck anyway!!  :D

I saw a crinkly peanut tomorrow

I'm going to join the RCMP!  (The Mounties), very good money, and for some reason, I cant get into the police here because of my tattoos! also this country is getting a little crowded,  I like the open spaces, long straight roads, and last but not least, prtrol that is half the price!

Ill miss it, but thats why that have hollidays you know.

LOL.  It's funny you should mention that, My GFs Dad has a 53 Anglia 100E, that is just waiting for a 426? to go in it. its had the bulkhead moved back, all the mounts are in place, its gonna be a beast, it'll probably flip onto its roof when he floors it lol
