Big plans for a little car!!
Having been tinkering with vw's for over 20yrs and growing up with nothing but Golfs ive decided to build the car ive always wanted. A big powered turbo Mk1 Golf. I'd planned on doing the 8/16v turbo conversion on a tidy little mk3 8v I picked up, but as it was a peach I decided to sell it and get IMO the nicest car ever made, a mk1.
Big thanks go out to stevo1 for the shell, very solid and free! (I had it transported from London to Manchester without seeing it and hoped he was honest, he is!) Theres a bit of surface rust here and there (on a mk1! never!) but the important bits are in very good condition and very clean, thanks again mate, top bloke and it also came with 2 new wings and a good bonnet! :y: .
I've got an ABF engine that im currently stripping down and sending to a local vw engine builder for block and head work, then im going to re-build it (if its deemed ok) with scat rods and, most likely, 83mm Wossner 8:1's. The head is being completely rebuilt also and a t3/t04e 50trim used with all the piping custom made. I've accumulated a few things over the last few months, the intercooler is a nice small(ish) one, rated to 400hp with a 0.2psi drop at 15psi. Its all gonna be run on MS too.
Having finally got a decent mk1 shell i'll have to rebuild/restore that too as I want the car to last me years and have planned on building a powerful mk1 for 10 years,it'd be a crime if I didnt!! I will save money on the styling front to start with and prob keep it fairly basic and stripped out (a la reeves' mk1 pre off), but I want it to be the same as Awesome's mk1 peach but in silver (clipper kit/quad grille etc) eventually. I'll also be doing the 02a (vr6 ratios), conversion and try 280mm brakes on it.
Thanks for reading and I hope the purists dont hate me too much but it's what ive been wanting to do for years :posh:

I hope the thread's half as good as some of the ones on here, there's some fantastic looking cars and really nice paint jobs. I'm saving my money on the styling front though as it's the mechanical (ie engine) aspect im looking forward to the most
Long way to go though, bit of elbow grease, jobs a good un!
