Back in the fold, after 22 years - 1980 GLi

Hi from sunny West (Mid) Sussex
Some 22 years after getting rid of my Silver 1980 VW Golf GLi Karmann (HYV680W - but expect it is long gone), I am back with a Silver 1980 VW Golf GLi Karmann (GRD227W) - took me 22 years to find 'the one'. Full service history from new (including the original article from Country Life and original brochure!) - to include everything. Only 1 owner from new, who I will write to if I can confirm he is still 'with us'. Only did couple 000's miles in last 4-5 years but garaged, so better condition than my beloved rust bucket from 22 years ago!
Kids love it. Wife loves it. I love it.
Who needs a mid life crisis when you have nostalgia?

The perfect MK1 Cabby model in my opinion, please, please don't modify it!  There was a similar model in blue at the AGM so nice.

I chickened out at the opportunity recently of getting a Brown 1980 GLI, just didn't have space.

Wow this is a beautiful car, I've owned a late cabby for the last 3 years but just got a bargain on a blue gli, hoping to also restore this one I really love the series 1 style it has, your car is just stunning!

I owned HYV680W from 2005 to 2007! I bought it as a runner from a breakers in Cornwall. It wasn't silver by then but had been resprayed Corrado aqua blue including the bumpers and arches. I popped a blue mohair hood on it too and some colour coded BBS RAs. Just before I sold it I put in a tan leather interior and an original Wolfsburg steering wheel. Sadly I got a bit sick of its electrical issues and sold it to a chap in Birmingham as I then got my LHD Sportline now owned by Denia.

dubboy will know better, but I think the silver one has the older style hood frame which is taller! Nice old cabby!!!
