Aussie MkI GTI

Hello from OZ!

I live in Sydney Australia, and about a year or so ago, I was lucky enough to buy a genuine late model (84) MkI Golf GTI.
MkI GTI are a bit uncommon downunder, as they were never officially sold here - we only got garden variety carby MkIs, which were still good…

My GTI is a 1.8 5 speed too, which make it even more unusual here.
It only has about 121k miles on it (it's a UK car), and still goes quite hard.
It seems relatively straight, and is largely rust-free, but needs a bit of work to get the body work up to scratch.
I have fitted Bilstein suspension, TSR (270mm) big brake kit, and MkII rear disks, so it handles and stops quite ok.

I suspect that it might be a Campaign, but the checks (as posted on this web site) are a little inconclusive. I'll post up the chassis number (once I work out which forum to post it to) in the hope that someone on in the club may be able to give me a definitive answer…

Welcome matey
Looks fairly tidy, See what you mean about the paint tho.  Easily sorted, as least you dont have too many rust issues.
Where abouts in Sydney?  Ive got family there :D

Roselands (Bankstown area) :)

No, no significant rust issues, which is good.
Paint will get sorted in due course

BTW, feel, free to drop into the Aussie watercooled VW forum:

Not exclusively MkIs, but there is a MkI forum that is moderately active…
