Auslander with 2x Mk1's says hi!

Hello!
whilst not strictly new here, i was introducing myself in a previous thread and was cut short due to being sent away to a sandy place.

well, anyway im 24, and like many mk1 owners my age i have been drawn to the car because of its simple, reliable engineering, classic look and low weight! ive done the modified bling thing and its left me feeling dissapointed and skint. mostly skint. i live in germany (at least for a few more months anyway), im an aircraft technician by trade and own 2 Mk1's.

the first is my nurburgring machine. tuned 8v gti engine, race spec interior, and foolishly low.

the second is my project car, at the moment its an immaculate restored shell, not sure where to go from here. pretty sure i want to drop in a 20v turbo, and do the interior in a minimalist race style to save wheight. but ive gotta finish the project, has taken more time to get this far than i would of liked. took it down to the bare bones and reconditioned everything. im going to respray it again before the rebuild, the silver looks rubbish. need to put the running gear back on the front as well to move it to the paint shop asap! im sure im going to be asking a multitude of questions from you guys in the coming year. the car should outlast me though :)

i also own a horde of ropey MK2's and a scirocco, but the less said about them the better!

Hello and welcome (again) :D Some nice loooking mk1's there, what size engine is the tuned 8valve and did you do a lap time at the nurburgring? Put a post in the modifications section about engine options, plenty of people to help.

Cheers

thanks (again)  8)

my 'ring lap time is usualy around 11.20, using the markers clarkson and co use. not too bad, can definately be improved upon. im always carefull to stay within my limits on the 'ring though.

its a 1.8 engine. didnt build the engine myself it was apparently put together years ago by van kronenburg, though its changed owners alot within the last few years so its hard to tell exactly what was done. basicaly its;
transplanted Audi fuel injection system
high comp forged pistons
schrick race cam
Ported head
group A rally exhaust+manifold

it runs really badly on anything but 100 octane. its good for 230kph (about 140mph) on the clock, which goes to show that even though im not sure of the real spec or horsepower output, its definately lairy!

unfortunately ive been sent back to the UK and without a garage (and also having to buy a new flat) the golf's had to go. got a scirocco runaround though, at least its a mk1 floorpan. so bye to all for now, though im certainly not finished with MK1s!
