at last i feel i belong!

been lurking for ages and finally got round to getting my first mk1 gti  

an ebay find with much promise, but as usual some bits are not quite right!

the car has had an engine rebuild, pretty much new bodywork all round and a window out spray job in its original black.

all this was true except the chap failed to mention the spray job was done by his dad in a chicken shed!

the paint work looks like it hasnt had it final cut and polish but will need redoing anyway! some pics:

proper mint interior with new headlining and carpet!


this is how dull the paint is


quick experiment with 2000 grit wet and dry, cutting compound and polish


didnt come out too bad! only problem is the paint is so thin is has rubbed through it but i knew it would need a respray anyway

backbox is shot too, had to drive for 2 hours home with it sounding like a V8 on open pipes!

I think it deserves a new paint job too.

cost me ?1200 which considering the last owner spent nearly 2k on it i didnt think was bad!

Well worth the money optimusprimer . Looks good . A bit quicker than that Beetle !

That grill suround is easily painted if you do a site search you will find the right colour for it from Halfords . Give me a shout if you need any help or advice locally to us .  :wink:

ah, the bug is my wifes that we restored last summer, this year its my turn  

she has stolen the keys to my mk3 gti 16v so i needed to get myself another run about and this should do nicely

A bit of back to blacking and a new parcel shelf and jobs a good un!

back box has been replaced so i can drive it now!

yay, got the grille trim painted,, amazing the difference it makes!
